An Afternoon Ramble from Reeth
This delightful 2.5 mile (4km) walk in scenic Swaledale links two of the most interesting villages, as well as giving fine views of a spectacular short section of the River Swale, noted for being the fastest rising river in England. Our route takes us over the well known ‘swing bridge’ a recent structure that replaced one swept away in a flood. We pass ancient cultivation terraces, a prehistoric burial mound and mysterious earthworks, as well as some of the most historic properties in the dale including the fine parish church in Grinton, often known as the ‘cathedral of the dale’.
