Muker to Ivelet Pasture
Join us on this classic 4 mile (6.4km) walk through stunning countryside to explore the history behind the many barns (known locally as cow houses) dotted about Upper Swaledale.
Find out how Muker became the main settlement in the area before setting off through a landscape of traditional hay meadows. Crossing open fell-side and pastures are a variety of different cow-houses, which formed part of a self-sustaining farming system.
On the way back along Love Lane to Muker is a haunted cow-house where fairies led a local school teacher to a tragic end!
